About Us

Wedgewood Farms first came into business in 1976 under Josephine Bourne (now Josephine Brouwer). Josephine moved to Langley from her facility at Southlands and started Wedgewood Farms; it began as a full service facility where horses boarded were also in training with Josephine. Over the years, it has been passed onto her daughter, Kathrine Gilker.

While Wedgewood Farms has had a few different locations, it has always provided the finest care possible. The horse's well being has always been our primary concern.

Wedgewood Farms continues to be a family run facility with Kathrine Gilker as the manager and trainer, her mother Josephine Brouwer as the instructor, and Kathrine's daughter Cynthia Gilker as assistant trainer. Three generations of horse lovers all here to care for you and your horse!

Management

Kathrine Gilker runs the barn and looks after the horses. She has been around horses her entire life, even attending Queen Margaret's Riding School as a girl.

She has been running a boarding stable since she was 19 when she took over Wedgewood Farms in 1982. Furthermore, she worked at Exhibition Park (now Hastings Racecourse) as a groom and at the Cloverdale Race track as well.

She has worked with mares and foals, Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, Freisan and Arabian breeding stallions, and many other breeds.

Hence, Kathrine Gilker is experienced with several breeds of horses. She has a knowledgeable background and is able to establish a trust and bond with horses.
